Subject: Children's Room Internet Stations
Do any of you have Internet workstations located in the Children's Room
or area of the Library? If so, how are you handling access issues? Is
it any different from Internet stations in the adult area?
We will be setting up Internet PCs, with Web browsing only, in the
Children's Room as part of a joint project with the local elementary
school district (one PC from their grant), and also as part of our own
integrated Internet access (two PCs of our own). The school Internet
workstations have restricted access through the County Dept. of
Education home page (if you start from another home page, access is not
restricted, but I guess in school the kids don't have much chance to do
fancy stuff).
We wouldn't dream of restricting access in the adult section (and will
not keep kids from using these), but we have mixed feelings about the
workstations in the Children's Room. We're considering using Surfwatch.
(I wince as I write that.) Anybody have some experiences in this area?
Thanks in advance,
Laura Mitchell
