Subject: Handicapped patrons
A number of our (Fort Bragg Library) patrons have unsteady hands and thus
difficulty in operating a mouse. I recently discovered free PC software
that allows such patrons to use the keyboard to deal with point and click
programs. The software is by Microsoft, is free, and provides several
options: use of a key to double click with a single stroke, keys to
navigate around the screen, the possibility of sequential rather than
simultaneous pressing of more than one key, and other features.
The programs that do all this are available in the file accp30.zip, Access
Pack for Persons With Disabilities. It can be found at
freebsd.cdrom.com/systems/ibmpc/msdos/windows3/. An Archie search
will give you a number of alternate sites having the program.
Following installation (the details of installation are included in the
zipped file), a simple keystroke combination will invoke the feature needed
for the patron.
