The iPad is a tablet computer that can play audio and visual media such as books, periodicals, movies, music, and games, as well as web content. It weighs abiut a pound and a half. The iPad runs the iOS (operating system) that the earlier iPod Touch and iPhone. It can run its own applications as well as ones developed for the iPhone. Like the iPhone and iPod Touch, the iPad is controlled by a touchscreen. The iPad uses Wi-Fi to browse the Internet, load and stream media, and install software. Some models also have a 3G wireless data connection. The device is managed and synced by iTunes on a personal computer via USB cable.

  1. To turn ON press button on the top of the iPad, then use your finger on the screen to "Slide to Unlock" where it tells you to do so ;)
  2. Choose an icon on the screen to use that feature:
    1. Safari (uses Wi-Fi)
    2. YouTube
    3. Calendar
    4. Contacts
    5. Clock
    6. Calculator
    7. Settings
    8. Music
    9. Videos
    10. Photos
    11. iTunes
  3. To adjust volume while media is playing, use the volume control on the side of the iPad.
  4. Tap to make choices on screen. To scroll, slide your finger up or down on the screen.
  5. To return to main screen, press round button on bottom.
  6. To practice typing, try adding a contact:
    1. Select contact from main menu
    2. Press onscreen + button to add a new contact
    3. Press Last First, to bring up keyboard and start typing.
  7. Device will automatically shut off when not in use.
