Penny Hummel
Penny Hummel has been a passionate promoter of libraries for over ten years. Since 2001, she has been the Public Relations Manager of Multnomah County Library in Portland, Oregon, where she coordinates communications, programming and media relations for the 17-branch metropolitan library system. She is also the project manager of Everybody Reads, the library's award-winning citywide book discussion.
Prior to joining the library's staff, Penny advocated for her library as its Friends president and as a foundation trustee. Her professional experience as a communications consultant includes coordinating a highly successful statewide fundraising and promotional campaign for the Oregon Library Association's 2000 Summer Reading program and developing marketing plans for libraries and other cultural institutions. She has also conducted library advocacy trainings nationally under the auspices of Libraries for the Future's Communities and Libraries Advocacy Project.
