Gates Foundation Grant Information

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has maintained an interest in the sustainability of public access computing in libraries since 2000 when many California libraries received public access computers, computer labs and training.

In 2005, the California State Library Foundation, on behalf of the California Library, received a Staying Connected grant which provides training to California libraries through Infopeople. A second grant, the Public Access Computer Hardware Upgrade Grant (PAC HUG) is also being pursued by the California State Library Foundation. The PAC HUG grant will help California's disadvantaged communities by providing opportunities to replace public access computers in the state's public libaries.
