Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Public Access Computer Hardware Upgrade Grant (PAC HUG)
The Gates PAC HUG program will help participating public libraries upgrade public library computers that were part of the Gates grant in 2000. The California State Library Foundation will receive the grant funds and manage the project. Read more in the Fall 2005 issue of CSL Connection.
Once the grant has been received by the California State Library Foundation, money will be distributed to the administrative entity of each participating library. The funds are to be used to replace the Gates granted computers from 2000 (Priority 1) or to replace the computers that replaced those original granted computers (Priority 2).
Infopeople and Califa have worked together with Dell, Gateway and Userful to create some excellent purchasing options for libraries receiving grant funds from the Gates Public Access Computer Hardware Upgrade Grant. Read more about these software and hardware deals.
Grant Requirements: Please note that the Gates PAC HUG funds can only be used for purchasing public access computers defined as follows:
- The computer is available for access by the public at no cost and without intervention by staff;
- The computer provides access to external information resources (e.g. the Internet and bibliographics databases); and
- The computer can access personal productivity or reference software (e.g. word processing, presentation, spreadsheet, encyclopedia or other educational software).
