California's Family Place Library Grant Program 2011-2012

We are pleased to announce that we are now accepting applications for the 2011/2012 California’s Family Place Library Grant Program. Up to ten awards will be granted in 2011/2012.

Under this program, the State Library will support attendance of an administrator and a librarian to a three day Training Institute in Los Angeles, September 19-22, 2011 (Welcome Dinner held on Monday evening, September 19). Training fees, hotel accommodations and meals will be covered, but all travel expenses will be the responsibility of attendees. In addition, the libraries selected to attend the Training Institute will be eligible to apply for an LSTA Implementation Grant for up to $15,000 to establish a family/early childhood learning center in the children’s services area. These implementations may include toys, collections, furnishings, etc. that will be conducive to interaction between young children, parents, and caregivers.

Information about the Family Place Library Grant Program and application materials will be outlined in a webinar on Monday, June 20, 10:00-11:00 am. Participation is required for all prospective applicants.

The program instruction guidelines and training application will be available on the State Library’s website at http://www.library.ca.gov/grants/lsta/apply.html by Friday, June 17, 2011.

The deadline for receipt of applications is Monday, July 18, 2011, 4:00 pm.

Note: Due to the overwhelming response to this program, California Public Library Jurisdictions that received a Family Place Grant in 2009/2010 or 2010/2011 are not eligible to apply.

If you have any questions about the program, please contact Bessie Condos at (916) 651-0981 or by email at bcondos@library.ca.gov.
