Free or Low-Cost Digital Image Services
There are many online photo storage sites now available. For a more complete list, see this CNET page.
Note: while these services are free, if you have a dialup connection it may take quite a while to upload your photos!
The following is a list of some of the larger, free services. All of the sites listed here offer you the ability to share your photos on the web.
- Flickr - flickr.com/ - Unlimited photos can be uploaded but only 200 photos can be viewed at a time with a free account. No download required to use, but they do offer free tools to make uploading easier. You can create "groups" of fellow users to share similar images. Photos can also be uploaded to blogs.
- Kodak Easy Share Gallery - www.kodakgallery.com/ - Formerly called Ofoto, unlimited photos can be uploaded. Kodak makes it very easy to buy prints (that's how they keep this service free). They also offer free tools to make uploading faster. Photos can also be uploaded to blogs.
- Shutterfly - shutterfly.com/ - Unlimited photos can be uploaded. Like Kodak, they make it easy to order prints online, as well as photo albums. They also offer online photo editing tools.
- Snapfish - snapfish.com/ - Owned by Hewlett-Packard. Unlimited photos can be uploaded. Easy to order prints. They also offer online photo editing tools.
