Ira Bray has over a decade of experience with the collection and reporting of public library statistics. While State Data Coordinator at the California State Library, he managed the yearly cycle of survey design, survey deployment, collection, inspection, and review of data elements submitted by 181 library jurisdictions. He was elected by fellow State Data Coordinators to serve on the Library Statistics Working Group to advise the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) on public and state library statistics issues and served from 2006 to 2010. As a consultant with Library Development Services at the California State Library, Ira reviewed more than two hundred Library Services and Technology (LSTA) grant applications and monitored successful grants totaling more than four million dollars. His current consulting business focuses on work with clients on issues related to public library statistics.
